This is just a short post to let you know what’s happening at Chimera right now.

The most exciting news is that we are just about to release 2 new themes and a few more next month.   We think you will love these and we will begin adding new features to our existing themes.

Some somewhat boring news is that we just updated all of our themes because the bit.ly API was not allowing connections anymore so we started using a much prettier URL shortener from t.co.  There will be no more bit.ly death in our Twitter widget.

Here is the most important news because it is in effect as of right now:

I just put the theme, layered PSD’s (PhotoShop design files)  in the standard licenses because I am feeling generous. And, I think that every client of Chimera should have the ability to customize our themes as much as they want.

Also, the developer license now comes with 2 bonus themes and gives you the ability to use them on multiple domains and remove our footer credit link.

Of course, the developer license is the best deal but for those that don’t need those bonus themes right now and only want a single theme installed, we’ve got your back with our standard theme license.

The Chimera originally was a female creature from Greek mythology (see WikiPedia article).  It hailed from Lycia in Asia Minor and was made up of parts of many animals.  It had 3 heads: a lioness, goat and serpent.  The body was that of a lioness with a goat head emanating out of her spine and a serpent head from its tail.

Why Did We Choose Chimera for a Company Name?

As a company, we identify most with the lion head! For us, it evokes the sense of strength, authority, balance, sound judgement, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority, dominion, justice, wisdom, ferocity.

Of course, there is also the contemporary use of the word which we feel represents our themes.  Not to toot our own horn, but a theme like wpPrecious evokes the amazing and awesome – the unbelievable.  If you’ve ever put in all the beautiful sliders, custom sidebars, and look at the way our fancyboxes display for galleries, portfolios and even regular blog post images, you know what I mean.

What’s New at Chimera Themes?

We are currently working on 3 new themes that will be released within the next few weeks. Back in late January, we re-launched the improved Chimera Themes support forum and added Michael as a support lead to help our members set up their sites. We are committed to first-class support and really like doing it in the forum because it gives our other users the ability to search for an answer to their questions that may already exist. Many members will have the same questions and our forum gives them the chance to search for their particular question in the forumthat may have already been addressed and answered.

What have we updated and added to Enlightened?

1. Added a sample Pricing page as seen in our Enlightend Premium WordPress Theme Demo.

Creating a custom menu

Our theme comes with three menu locations – Header Menu, Footer Menu and Sidebar menu (which can be added to a Custom Menu widget).

From the WP Admin menu go to Appearance > Menus and create a menu. Name it whatever you want. From the menus sidebar add whatever pages, custom links or categories you like to the menu you just created. Then, save the menu and add it to one of the available menu locations.

Creating a Blog category

To create a blog section you don’t need any page templates or any similar stuff.
From the WP Admin menu go to Posts > Categories and create a new category. It can have any name you like. Add to it all posts that you want to be shown in the Blog section. Then, from Appearance > Menus, add the category you just created to the header menu for example.

From the WP Admin menu go to Chimera Themes > Theme Options > General Settings > Miscellaneous.

On the Miscellaneous tab near the bottom you have Image resizer settings. Uncheck the “Enable auto image resize ? ” option to disable the automatic resizer. ( Red checkbox means its disabled ; Green checkbox means its enabled).
Important: If you disable the automatic resizer you will have to add your post images using the standard WordPress Media Library.

Below you have a list of optimal sizes that the images should have:

Nivo slider images:

width: 980px;
height: any as long as all images have the same height;

Dynamic slider images:

Full width slides:
width: 980px;
height: any height;

For slides with title and content:
width: 520px;
height: any height; We recommend 340px;

Create a page from the WP Admin menu. You will need to paste that code below in that page. In order to do that, you need to go to the Add New Page form and above the textarea on the right click HTML and then paste the code in the textarea.

Now that you have created the homepage content page, you need to actually add it to the homepage. From the WP Admin menu go to Chimera Themes > Theme Options > General Settings > Homepage. You see there two select boxes – one for the top of your homepage and one for the bottom. Select the page you created earlier.
